혹시 이런 마음 가져본 적 있으세요? Have you ever felt this way?

교회는… 솔직히 좀 힘든데 그렇다고 하나님까지 놓고 싶지는 않은 마음. Church… honestly, feels a bit hard sometimes. But at the same time, you don’t really want to let go of God.

사람 때문에 지치기도 하고 어떤 순간에는 실망하기도 하고 또 어떤 때는, 너무 형식적으로 느껴지기도 하고… You get tired because of people, sometimes disappointed, and other times it just feels too… formal, too routine.

그래서 조금 거리를 두게 됐는데 이상하게 하나님에 대한 마음까지 사라진 건 아닌 거예요. So you start to create a little distance. But strangely, your heart toward God hasn’t disappeared.

기도는 잘 안 하게 됐지만 그래도 힘들 때는 하나님을 찾게 되고 완전히 떠난 건 아닌 것 같은 그 상태. You don’t really pray much anymore, but when things get hard, you still find yourself looking for Him. It doesn’t feel like you’ve completely walked away.

아마 이 말씀을 읽고 있는 많은 분들이 그 어딘가에 서 있지 않을까 생각합니다. Maybe many of you reading this are standing somewhere in that space right now.

근데 이런 질문이 생기죠. And then these questions come up:

‘내가 지금 하나님과 멀어진 걸까?’ ‘Have I drifted away from God?’
‘아니면 그냥 교회랑만 멀어진 걸까?’ ‘Or… have I just drifted away from church?’

오늘 저는 이 질문에 대해 조금 다른 관점에서 이야기해보려고 합니다. Today, I want to talk about that question from a slightly different perspective.”

▲ 신앙은 장소가 아니다 (Faith is not a place.) (9-1/121)

성경을 보면, 사람들이 하나님을 어떤 ‘장소’에 묶어두려고 했던 모습이 나옵니다. When you look at the Bible, you can see that people often tried to confine God to a certain ‘place.’

특히 성전이 그랬죠. Especially the temple.

근데 사도행전 7장 48절에서 스데반은 굉장히 중요한 말을 합니다. But in Acts 7:48, Stephen says something very important:

그러나 지극히 높으신 이는 손으로 지은 곳에 계시지 아니하시나니 ‘However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands.’

이 말은 뭐냐면, 하나님은 특정 건물 안에만 계시는 분이 아니라는 거예요. What this means is God is not someone who exists only within a specific building.

우리는 쉽게 이렇게 생각합니다. We often think like this:

‘내가 교회를 안 나가니까 하나님과도 멀어진 거 아닐까?’ ‘If I’m not going to church, does that mean I’ve grown distant from God too?’

근데 성경은 조금 다르게 말합니다. But the Bible speaks a little differently.

하나님은 장소에 묶여 계신 분이 아니라 관계 안에서 우리를 만나시는 분이라는 거예요. God is not bound to a place—He meets us within a relationship.

그러니까 교회를 떠났다는 사실과 하나님을 떠났다는 건 같은 얘기가 아닐 수 있습니다. So leaving church and leaving God are not necessarily the same thing.

어쩌면 우리는 이런 상태일 수 있어요. Maybe this is where we find ourselves:

‘하나님은 믿고 싶은데 사람들과의 신앙은 좀 어렵다’ ‘I want to believe in God, but doing faith with people feels difficult.’

‘신앙은 있는데 어디에도 속하고 싶지는 않다’ ‘I have faith, but I don’t really want to belong anywhere.’

근데 이 상태를 스스로 정죄하기 시작하면 점점 하나님과도 멀어지게 됩니다. But when we start to judge ourselves for being in this place, we slowly begin to drift further away from God as well.

그래서 오늘 꼭 이 말은 드리고 싶어요. So today, I really want to say this:

하나님은 지금의 당신 상태를 이미 알고 계신다는 것. God already knows exactly where you are right now.”

그리고 더 중요한 건 이겁니다. And more importantly, this is what matters.

하나님은 교회를 떠난 당신을 떠나지 않으셨습니다. God has not left you, even if you’ve stepped away from church.

우리가 거리를 두고 있는 동안에도 하나님은 여전히 우리의 이야기를 듣고 계시고 우리를 향해 열려 계십니다. Even while we’ve been keeping our distance, God is still listening to us and remains open toward us.

그럼 우리는 어떻게 해야 할까요? So what should we do?

거창한 거 말고 정말 작은 것부터 시작해도 됩니다. It doesn’t have to be something big—you can start with something very small.

다시 기도를 해보는 것, 짧게라도 말씀을 열어보는 것, 그리고 이런 모임 안에서 완벽하지 않더라도 연결을 이어가는 것 Try praying again, even briefly; open the Word, even for a moment; and stay connected, even imperfectly, through gatherings like this.

중요한 건 이거예요. This is what truly matters.

완벽한 신앙을 회복하는 게 아니라 하나님과의 연결을 끊지 않는 것. Not restoring a perfect faith, but not cutting off your connection with God.

우리는 교회를 떠났을 수 있습니다. We may have left the church.

하지만 하나님은 우리를 떠나신 적이 없습니다. But God has never left us.

그리고 지금 이 자리도 어쩌면 하나님이 다시 우리를 부르고 계신 하나의 시작일 수 있습니다. And perhaps even this very moment is a new beginning—God calling us back again.

기도문

하나님, 우리가 교회와의 거리 속에서 혼란스러워하고, 때로는 지쳐 있었던 시간들을 주님은 이미 알고 계신 줄 믿습니다. God, we believe that You already know the seasons when we felt confused and weary in our distance from the church.

혹시 우리 안에 하나님까지 멀어졌다고 느끼는 마음이 있다면 오늘 다시 알게 해주세요. If there is any part of us that feels we have grown distant even from You, please help us realize again today.

주님은 여전히 가까이 계시고 우리를 떠나지 않으셨다는 것을요. That You are still near, and that You have never left us.

완벽한 모습이 아니라도 지금 이 자리에서 다시 하나님과 연결되기를 원합니다. Even if we are not perfect, we want to reconnect with You again right here, right now.

작은 믿음이라도 다시 살아나게 하시고 끊어졌던 기도의 자리, 말씀의 자리로 한 걸음 나아가게 해주세요. Let even our smallest faith come alive again, and lead us one step back to prayer and to Your Word.

이 모임 가운데 하나님을 다시 경험하는 은혜가 있게 하시고 각자의 자리에서 하나님과 동행하는 삶을 살게 해주세요. Grant us the grace to encounter You again in this gathering, and help us to walk with You in each of our lives.

Those who have stepped away from the institutional church, yet have never abandoned their faith, are often described as Christians outside the traditional church structure. 제도권 교회를 떠났지만 신앙을 결코 버리지 않은 이들은 흔히 전통적인 교회 구조 밖에 있는 크리스천들로 설명됩니다.

This does not mean rejecting the church itself, but rather seeking to preserve the essence of faith while maintaining a personal relationship with God beyond formal institutions. 이는 교회 자체를 부정한다는 의미가 아니라, 형식적인 제도를 넘어 하나님과의 개인적인 관계를 유지하면서 신앙의 본질을 지키고자 하는 태도를 의미합니다.

In this context, we refer to communities that gather in this spirit as “Open Fellowship.” This is a term we define—not only as a space where faith is shared freely without rigid structures or boundaries, but also as a community that supports and encourages Christians outside the traditional church structure to sustain and grow in their faith. 이러한 맥락에서, 우리는 이러한 형태로 모이는 공동체를 ‘오픈 펠로우십(Open Fellowship)’이라 부릅니다. 이는 우리가 정의한 개념으로, 엄격한 구조나 경계 없이 자유롭게 신앙을 나누는 공간일 뿐만 아니라, 전통적인 교회 구조 밖에 있는 크리스천들이 신앙을 지속하고 성장해 나갈 수 있도록 돕는 공동체를 의미합니다.
